Dawn Rattan

Dawn was raised in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Sumner Academy of Arts & Sciences. She loved math and science and graduated from Florida A&M University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Dawn worked at Procter & Gamble for 11 years with assignments in Operations and Human Resources. After leaving P&G, she became an entrepreneur with the start-up of two family businesses, Village West Liquors, and EverFit Gym.

In 2021, she was elected to the Board of Trustees at Johnson County Community College. She is proud to be a public servant at this top educational institution and the first Black person elected to the board in the school’s history. In 2025, she was elected to a second term and serves as the Vice Chair of the Board.

Dawn also serves as the Executive Director of Downtown Shareholders of Kansas City Kansas, serving to revitalize this historic area.

Dawn serves on the boards of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, Young Women on the Move, and United Community Services of Johnson County. She also previously served as Vice Chair of the Johnson County Charter Commission. In 2024, she was nominated as a Woman of Impact by the American Heart Association and raised nearly $50,000 in support of heart health initiatives.

She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, and the Links, Inc. Her hobbies include traveling, reading, hosting parties, and learning to play tennis and pickleball. Dawn is married to Manu Rattan, an attorney and business owner and they have three children, aged 28, 23 and 18.
